I hope you all have had a good break! Over the break, I was working on developing my decorating skills by working with chocolate to pipe designs. This was harder than using buttercream to pipe because it was messier and didn't come out as smooth.
So, to avoid this, I followed the directions carefully and it turned out really good! I used Nestle's semi-sweet chocolate chips which I was concerned wouldn't work as well as other chocolate, however it came out the perfect consistency.
To frost the cake, I made a coffee buttercream which turned out really well. I followed what the book said and made sure to let the coffee cool and add 2 tablespoons of it and only one tablespoon of cream (Sullivan, 25). I used the crumb-coating method again and I made sure to let the first layer harden before I finished coating it. However I wish I would've spent more time smoothing out the top layer.
Overall I had a lot of fun piping the chocolate designs and I think I will try this skill for future cakes.
Your cake turned out very nice. I really like all of the chocolate designs. I was wondering if this cake was made for any special occasion like maybe a birthday, or was it made just for fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I made it for a New Year's party and everyone really enjoyed it!
DeleteWow your cake looks very appealing to the eyes and stomach. The designs are very intricate and well-made.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI absolutely love the design for your cake! It looks amazing -- making me crave some! Do you do the designs on paper first and then finish, or something else? I'm gonna go get some cake right now...
ReplyDeleteHaha thank you! Yes, I did the designs on parchment paper and let them cool in the fridge! Then it's super easy just to peel it off. It was a really neat design recommendation in my book!
DeleteWow! this cake is really nice looking, The design that you have are very nice. I was wondering how long did it take you to do
