Post 3: How to 'pick' your guitar

In this post, the past few days I have been experimenting with picking the strings. From the book, it says "a certain symbol shows you to strike the guitar downwards, while at first, practice the exercises slowly and steadily." In the picture above, it shows how I am moving downwards on the guitar. when I first started out picking, it was very complicated to come up with nice-sounding patterns and realizing they have different pitches when I press a string and when I don't. Another piece of text says "Touch only the tips of the fingers on the strings." There was quite a difference when I only pressed the tips of my fingers and when I didn't. when I first tried picking, I would press my whole finger on the strings, and it did not sound right, it was a muffled sound. But when I only, gently pressed the tips of my fingers on the strings, they sounded nice and musical. Why do you think, the different amount of pressure on the strings, come out with different sounds?
