After learning the foundations for the piano (Ex: quarter/half/whole notes, time signatures, notation), I was able to move onto other beginner topics, such as more notes and simple music styles. Some of the new content included expression marks, rags, and sharps/flats. Although I knew most of the "new" concepts on another instrument, playing the same concepts on the piano still needed some thought, due to the implementation on both hands. "Practice hands separately at first and then, when each part is perfect, try playing the piece hands together slowly" (Barratt, 24)
Something important that I have forgotten to practice are scales. Although scales are considered very important, the book never mentioned any scales, and instead, skipped right into the practice pieces. Scales are important because they help improve your coordination on the piano, due to the need to play many different notes in different key signatures.

Overall progress is slow, as to be expected because I practice only about 10-20 minutes per day. Does your activity you are practicing need lots of practice?
