Main Light:
"Main light can be from the sun or any artificial light source," (Gissemann 28). When using the main light, it is best to switch off all the other lights to avoid skewed results. The main light determines the amount of contrast, type of shadow, and overall atmosphere of a shot. It can also emphasize or reduce the shape and texture of the dish.

Daylight provides low contrast and shows all details
|
Daylight is one of the best lights to use throughout the day because it's free and easy to work with. The "golden hours" are just after dawn and just before sunset which provide the best daylight for taking photos that produce low contrast and soft shadows. The only challenge is setting up a schedule to reach these "golden hours". A window is best if the ambient light doesn't shine through it. Daylight is a source of main light that creates depth and clarity within a photo. It also gives the overall photo a natural and illuminous look.

Light at Different Times:
Different times of the day have different effects on photos. "The mood produced by day light changes hourly," (Gissemann 54). The best way to find your favorite daylight is to test it out different times of the day.
Lighting is a main component of a photo's outcome. Throughout the day, the shades of natural constantly changes and this can also create different moods. Daylight is one of the best lightings because it is free and available anywhere.

I had no idea simple sunlight throughout different parts of the day could do so much for a picture! If I had to choose, artificial lighting would likely be my go to lighting, only because sunlight can be unreliable sometimes. Clouds or shadows could get in the way. Artificial lights may be easier to control. I don't really know however, I'm not much of a photographer.
ReplyDeleteHi Johannah! Thank you so much for commenting. I also agree with what you said about sunlight because it is super hard to control. Artificial lighting is always a good compromise if sunlight isn't available. BTW your blogs are very interesting :)
DeleteTiffany, I liked how you used simple sunlight. I always thought that if I used sunlight then it might ruin the picture because of the angels. Sunlight is not my go to lighting, its difficult because its hard to control.
ReplyDeleteHi Divya! Thank you so much for commenting. I also agree that sunlight is super hard to control and it constantly changes throughout the day. :)
