In the next chapter of the book of
How to play Popular Piano in 10 easy lessons, by Norman Monath, is the basic Chords. What are Chords you might ask? A
chord is a combination of three of more tones sounded simultaneously (Monath 37). The chord add like an extra taste to the music and more interest in music. A chords is being use to play in the left hand, and when you are playing three notes chords, they could be call
triads . The author suggest began with the simple and basic chords playing on pinky, middle, and thumb on C, F and G chords. As you can see below, I'm practicing the basic basic chords and as I practice my hand are getting use to the form of the chords and how it's suppose to be.

As I keep practicing C chord, and transfer to G and F, I feel much easier and less stressful, like the author wrote, " Once you learn how to "type" music in one small area, you will know how to put the entire range of the instrument at your service" (Monath 39). This support the idea of the 7 notes being repeat throughout the keyboard, which I talk about it in the last blog, learning an area of the keyboard, your basically learning the whole keyboard. By having that idea in my mind, I don't feel so much of complication, but much more of muscle memories and knowings what type of chords it is, and the hand placement.

Overall, chords have their own uniqueness and it's play a special role in the music. By learning chords, its help me with my brain, because of remembering notes and help my hand muscle getting more used to the keyboard and how the chords are suppose to be play. My question to you guys are: Have you been ever confused with chords (base clef) before? If not, what are some tips that can help to not be confused about it?

Hi ty! i really liked how you explained chords and it gives the reader a sense of what it is. i am interested in how playing the violin helps you play the piano? was reading the music on paper easier for you? I am learning to play the piano by sheet music too, and something i learned about chords is that you can play the notes out of order but it would still sound like the same chord. This helps the pianist to relax their hand and play the same chord the way they are most comfortable.
ReplyDeleteWell Zara, by know how to playing the violin, it's really help transition into learning the piano and reading music was not so bad at all. Yes! I mess around with chords and I personally feel very comfortable playing my own style with the chords and it's still sound similar with regular way of playing chords.
DeleteThat is a really good way of explaining, Ty! I sometimes mess around on the piano I have at my house and I can never spread my fingers out right haha. But on the violin, with double and triple stops, it can get really complex, and I have some trouble with it sometimes because I have bigger fingers. Does that same thing apply to the piano?
ReplyDeleteThanks Nathan! Well for me, in the beginning I would say it's really complex. But as i keep practicing , I get used to the keyboard and it wasn't so bad after that. Practice make perfect :)
