Felting Animals Part 2: The Body

By: Cynthia Mak

Today, I'll be felting the white body, and adding on some grey wool to make my corgi multicolored. "Form the basic head and body shapes from white wool, leaving an end of unworked wool at the top of the body. Join them together by felting this end onto the head" (Marie- Noëlle Horvath 34).

This is the diagram of the corgi body from the book.
(Marie- Noëlle Horvath 34)

I removed a portion of the wool from the initial bundle, around
how much I thought I needed to felt the body.

I rolled up the wool into an oval shape and started jabbing my
needle into the loose ends to secure the wool into that shape.

After a long while of jabbing the needle all around the ball of
wool, I managed to shape it into an oval shape, condensing the wool.

I wanted the corgi to be multi-colored, so I took out a grey
a piece of wool to felt onto the body.

I felted the grey wool into the body and tried blending the colors
the best I could, but it was hard to make it look natural.
I left the front part of the grey wool unattached to the body, so that
when I attach the head, I can blend the grey onto it.

Thats my completed body! Its still not all the way shaped, because I have to leave it loose to combine all the other body parts later. Stay tuned for my later blog posts to see me complete my welsh corgi step by step.

My question: What animal should I attempt to create next time?

  1. This is a really creation Cynthia, I am wondering are you really into animals which is why you chose to do this or is it just a common interest of yours because it looks very interesting to do

    1. Thank you Simran! I like corgis and other dogs a lot, so thats why I decided to do this project. This is my first time felting and what drew me into it was the cute animals on the cover of the book.
