My blog is about teaching myself the guitar. The book I have read has taught me to adjust my fingers into the correct place for chords. I have always wanted to learn to play the guitar since I didn't have a use for playing the piano anymore. this has been a goal all my life therefore, I did this for my project. This has impacted my life so-far, well. It allows me to have an activity after school on my free-days and when I get bored, I strum and come up with my own songs for fun. the chords I have on my picture is C (above) and G (below). I recommend teaching yourself a musical instrument because it helps you to put your creative mind into an object and let yourself make up songs and its a great challenge I am willing to accomplish.

  1. Hi Anika! You probably don't know me, but I just would like to give you tips on learning guitar myself, since I am a musician as well. I recommend that you should create a structured practice regiment, so that you can maximize your amount of growth in a short amount of time. Guitar really is a unique instrument to learn. Everyone can play it, but not all are extremely good at it. Also, try watching videos on YouTube, or getting lessons! You should check out my blogs as well, it is about guitar playing. It may be a bit complex, but it can give you an idea of what guitar playing can get you. My question is, what is your favorite genre of music, and how do you think learning guitar will effect how you feel about it?

  2. Hey, Anika, looking really good on the guitar! I play multiple string instruments, among are the guitar and ukulele. One thing I have learned in the last seven years is that practicing chords and progressions is actually really really helpful! Taking lots of time to make sure you have the chords down is helpful in two ways; building muscles memory to your hand, and growing calluses on your fingertips. The muscle memory helps you get the chords your are learning down to minimal thinking when you switch between chords and helps you learn other chords faster. I bet your fingers hurt trying to push hard down on a sharp string on your soft fingertips, but calluses are what appear after lots of practice on a string instruments and help you press down on the strings to produce a great sound when strumming. Keep at it, your doing great!

  4. I love your approach to learning how to play. It seems very creative and relaxing. I'm a musician myself, and I've always wanted to pick up the guitar and teach myself, but I just don't find the time. It's cool that you just pick it up whenever you aren't doing anything and play.
